The article, "Monster Hunter World is More Than A Sequel- It's A Resurgence" is written by Julie Muncy. It was published January 30th 2018. The article is written to get gaming fans excited for the newly released "Monster Hunter World" game for the PS4 and Xbox One. The write uses a hyped up tone to show that she really cares about the game and didn;t right about it just for show. She also uses a strong appeal to logos by using comparisons to other video games to come up with a logical conclusion about how she will feel about Monster Hunter World once she is finished with the game. Lastly, the uses a casual form of diction in order to get the point across that she is playing the game for fun and doesn't have to be professional about it.
The author uses a very cheery tone when talking about the game. It shows that she is as excited as all of the other fans, but the game still is important to her specifically. She talks about the super specific parts of the game showing that she has gone really in depth with the game further than the point one would go when just writing an article. This shows the reader that the writer is very invested in the game and doesn't just care about it for the sake of writing. The author appeals to ethos throughout nearly the entire article with the goal of helping the reader be able to picture what the game is like if they don't own it, and to help people who do own the game compare it to something else so they have an experience similar to what they are about to play, therefore making it easier. She uses it especially well when comparing Monster Hunter to games like Persona 5 and Nier: Automata in order for the player to have some idea of what the other game was like and how the features carry over to Monster Hunter. The authors purpose of the article is to 1: get the audience excited about Monster Hunter if they don't already own it, and 2: give the players a comparison between games so they can know what to expect when playing the game, and to make the game much easier for them since they will be on comfortable ground. I think the author did a very good job getting her claim across. My friends and I are planning on getting Monster Hunter for the PC when it comes out later this year and this article helped to make things even more exciting. The author opens her argument by first talking about how Monster Hunter World is different from its original predecessor Monster Hunter. She makes sure to mention the new monsters and upgraded graphics a lot. She then explains the multiplayer aspect which is the main selling point of the new monster hunter. Finally, she compares it to other games made by similar developers so the gamers have some idea of what to expect. The authors use of a cheery tone, and appeal to logos, and a noticeable self interest in the game helps to prove her argument to the audience about why the $60 dollars that the game costs will be well worth the money.
